Service Description

In this 4 week course, you’ll explore and develop your skills on the pottery wheel while learning to push, pull, cut, and reform your pots to get truly unique pots. This Throw & Alter is geared toward those with a bit of experience (at least Wheel 1) and are comfortable centering on their own. If you have taken our Wheel I and are skilled enough to make forms mostly on center, this class is designed to further your exploration of forms with a mix of throwing and handbuilding techniques. You will explore modifying forms with your hands, wires, paddles, and our regular throwing tools. There are practice time slots available every week for student to come into the studio and practice what they learned. Please see our Student Practice Time page on our website for more details Lessons are as follows: Week 1: Throwing
and exploring wet/soft clay modification techniques Week 2: Throwing
+ Trimming + exploring leather soft modification techniques Week 3: Trimming + Attachments + exploring additive and subtractive modification techniques Week 4: Glazing Classes meet once a week for 2 hour sessions. Course fee includes everything you need: clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes to choose from. Clay is not included for Practice Times but is available to purchase by the pound, half bag or full bag at the studio. This class is held at our Studio West, inside Bell Arts Factory. Our studio is upstairs and not handicap accessible. If you require accommodation to take the class, please reach out via our contact page on our website so we can make alternate arrangements. In each class session, you will build on what you learned and made the previous week, so we strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. It is especially important that you attend the first class, so if you think you might have to miss week 1, please consider enrolling in another session. We do not offer make up classes. Long nails can make working with clay very frustrating. We recommend cutting them close before attending class. Also, clay is messy. Please dress accordingly and bring along an apron and a towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. Lastly, we work with moving equipment and long hair needs to be pulled back. See you in class.
