JULY Stamp Making & Slab Forms: Tuesdays

Service Description

In this 4 week course, you’ll learn to create your own custom patterned vessels using stamps designed and created by you. Then you'll discover how to take your patterned clay and make freeform ceramics through the meditative process of handbuilding with slabs. You'll be able to use your skills to create a variety of objects like cups, vases, bowls, planters. Student Practice Time is available every week to practice what you learned in class. The course is as follows: Week 1: Design and Create Stamps Week 2: Slab Project #1 with Stamps Week 3: Slab Project #2 with Stamps Week 4: Glaze Classes meet once a week for 2 hour sessions. Course fee includes everything you need: clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes, firing, plus open studio hours outside of class for more exploration in clay. Clay must be purchased for practice time. In each class session, you will build on what you learned and made the previous week, so we strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. It is especially important that you attend the first class, so if you think you might have to miss week 1, please consider enrolling in another session. We do not offer make up classes at this time. This class is held at our new Handbuilding Studio at 1414 E Main St. Long nails can make working with clay very frustrating. We recommend cutting them close before attending class. Also, clay is messy. Please dress accordingly and bring along an apron and a towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. See you in class.
