DEC Intermediate Slab-Building : Tuesday

Service Description

Prerequisite: Beginning Handbuilding twice. In this 3 week course, you’ll explore more advanced techniques of constructing with clay slabs. Topics covered in this class will be darted forms/shaping, sophisticated box/jar building, and making taller slab forms. Intermediate slab building is geared toward absolute beginners student with a bit of handbuilding experience who’d like to explore more topics in handbuilding. Student Practice Time is available every week to practice what you learned in class. Please visit the Student Practice Time area of our website for more details. Classes meet once a week for 2 hour sessions. Course fee includes everything you need: clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes, firing, plus open studio hours outside of class for more exploration in clay. Clay must be purchased for practice time. Final Pottery takes 1-2 weeks to complete firing. POTTERY MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. In each class session, you will build on what you learned and made the previous week, so we strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. It is especially important that you attend the first class, so if you think you might have to miss week 1, please consider enrolling in another session. We do not offer make up classes at this time. Long nails can make working with clay very frustrating. We recommend cutting them close before attending class. Also, clay is messy. Please dress accordingly and bring along an apron and a towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. See you in class.
