Service Description

Prerequisite: Handbuilding 1 (taken twice). Continue your handbuilding journey in this self-directed 4-week course designed for returning students ready to deepen their skills and explore their own ideas. With no assigned projects, you’ll have the freedom to create at your own pace while an instructor is available each session for guidance, troubleshooting, and demos upon request. The first three weeks are dedicated to making, with all wet work needing to be completed by the Saturday practice time of week three to allow for kiln firing. Week four focuses on glazing and finishing your pieces. Slabs will be prepared for you in week one; after that, students are responsible for wedging and preparing their own clay. Clay must be purchased separately. Student Practice Time is available every week to practice what you learned in class. Please visit the Student Practice Time area of our website for more details. Classes meet once a week for 2 hour sessions. Course fee includes: use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes, firing, plus open studio hours outside of class for more exploration in clay. Clay must be purchased for class and practice time. Please add-on a half-bag of clay when booking this class) In each class session, you will build on what you learned and made the previous week, so we strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. It is especially important that you attend the first class, so if you think you might have to miss week 1, please consider enrolling in another session. We do not offer make up classes at this time. Long nails can make working with clay very frustrating. We recommend cutting them close before attending class. Also, clay is messy. Please dress accordingly and bring along an apron and a towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. See you in class.
