NOV Creature Comforts: Thursdays (2026)

Service Description

Get creative with clay and bring your own little creatures to life. In this 4-week sculptural ceramics course, you’ll create critters, small animals, and monsters using handbuilding techniques, with opportunities to turn your creatures into functional pieces like jars and planters. Add ears, eyes, paws, tails, horns, and whatever other details your imagination comes up with, then finish your pieces with playful and creative glazing. No need to follow a pattern—this is all about giving your creatures a personality of their own. To get the most out of this class, some handbuilding experience is recommended as the instructor will not be covering the basics of building different forms. This is a playful, experimental environment with time to explore sculpting as well as colored ceramic finishes to bring your critters to life. Course meets once a week for 2.5 hour sessions. Course fee includes everything you need: clay, use of studio tools, a rainbow of cone 5 glazes, firing, plus open studio hours outside of class for more exploration in clay. Clay must be purchased for practice time. In each class session, you will build on what you learned and made the previous week, so we strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. It is especially important that you attend the first class, so if you think you might have to miss week 1, please consider enrolling in another session. We do not offer make up classes at this time. Long nails can make working with clay very frustrating. We recommend cutting them close before attending class. Also, clay is messy. Please dress accordingly and bring along an apron and a towel/rag for wiping your hands throughout the process. See you in class.
